An interactive Slade family history site

page title: How to add your own…

memories, stories, thoughts etc…

It’s really simple to add something to the website, and don’t forget that anything you do add can be altered even after you’ve added it, so don’t worry if you make a mistake. If in any doubt at all, just email me here:  oursladeroots@gmail.com and I’ll help to sort things out for you.

For the time being – and to avoid the idea of adding your own contents to the site being too daunting for any ‘techno-phobes’ – it will only be possible for you to add your stories/memories etc… If you have any old photos or documents to add, then just email them to me here: oursladeroots@gmail.com and I’ll upload them [and crop or resize if necessary] to the site.

If you’d rather email your memories, stories etc… to me, so that I can add them to the site then that’s fine. The whole ethos of this website however is that you can all add your own contents – my intended role is that of overseer/moderator.

So here is how to add your own stories to the site, I’ve used pictures to illustrate, hopefully it’s nice and straightforward to follow!

*NOTE – When you want to post a memory or story, it might be best to type it out beforehand, then save the file. Then all you have to do is ‘copy & paste’ the body of text into the white box. This avoids any mishap which might result in all your typing being in vain should something unexpected [like a power cut!] happening. Meaning you’d have to start all over again. VERY frustrating!

Next, you need to click your mouse anywhere in the white box – see the picture below:

And finally…

As the Meerkat from the TV ads would say “Simples….”

If you have any problems, just click here to email me: oursladeroots@gmail.com

  1. Once your story appears on the site [which it will do within seconds of you clicking the ‘Post Comment’ button] you can make any changes by simply clicking the word ‘edit’ – that will show all of your text allowing you to make the changes you like. Then you just need to click the ‘Update Comment’ button and you’re done.
